Two 'clowns for a day', Peckham Clowns Club, 1979.
A Clown
Both urchin and dotard,
he is sly, then innocent.
His effrontery is self
defeating.
His simplicity a contrivance.
By pretending mischief,
he effects laughter
and confounds himself
to delight us.
