Freddy Osler, Gabi Osler and Basil Schulz, 'The Flying Oslers', Billy Smart's, Fairfield Hall, Croydon, 1971.
The Flying Oslers are a trapeze act from South Africa. Freddy Osler was originally named Freddy Weppenaar and now runs an aquatic theme park in Australia. The French acrobat J Leotard (1838-70) invented the flying trapeze as a form of public entertainment and gave his name to the leotard, the costume that male and female aerial gymnasts alike still wear today.
