Evelyn Darnel, 'Eve-lynn',
Bournemouth Winter Garden Circus, Christmas 1973. Evelyn Darnel appears
as Columbin, the ballerina on horseback, but wears a Harlequin costume as
she says that she was too tall to wear a tutu. She received no formal ballet
education but was taught by her mother, Clara Paulo, who performed this
act before her. Clara, or 'Clarinda', is the grand-daughter of Madame Paulo,
who was a famous circus proprietor. Evelyn, her husband and her mother and
father all performed together in a troupe riding act called 'The Mohawks',
and Evelyn teaches 'High School' riding (dressage) to circus horses.
